The AU DDR project propels its attention towards the development of AU DDR documents including analytical compendium of African DDR experiences, DDR guidelines, and DDR training manual to be used in particular by the African center of excellence who are training the African stand by forces as well as DDR authorities in member-states.
AU DDR TRAINING MANUAL
AU DDR Training Manual is intended to support efforts by Member States, AU missions as well as the training for the regional African Stand By Force. The Manual will standardize DDR training within AU security infrastructure. The manual will contribute to harmonizing DDR practices by disseminating and training DDR practitioners on the best practices and the most recent innovations in DDR tools.
AU DDR OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
The AU DDR Operational Guidelines provides guidance to DDR practitioners on key issues pertaining to DDR on the African continent. It will also provide guidance to the AU, AU missions and the RECs and RMs in regards to their role in supporting the DDR efforts. The commission embarked on developing 13 guidelines on various topics, amongst which five guidelines are developed such as :
- Frameworks for National DDR Initiatives
- Detention in Peacekeeping Operations
- Social Reintegration of Ex-Combatants
- Women, Gender and DDR Operations
- Children's Situation in Armed Conflict
COMPENDIUM OF DDR EXPERIENCES IN AFRICA
Provided the fact that there has been no research document that has collected the vast and varied DDR experiences on the African continent and no document which contains the past and current national DDR strategies and program, the DDR compendium provides a repository for these experiences and provide researchers and policy makers with material to provide comparative analysis of the different DDR experiences.
